Chicago Public Library branches may be closed, but their librarians are now offering daily read alouds of children's books. Each story will be streamed live on the ChiPubLib Facebook page at 10 a.m. on weekdays. (Yes, that's the same time as the CPS Live Librarian read alouds - but don't worry, recordings of both can be accessed at a later time.)

Feel like your life could use a little extra magic these days? Hoping a letter from Hogwarts will show up inviting you on a magical adventure? Then think about joining Ms. Mernick's new Harry Potter Book Club!
Read alouds are a vital component of literacy. They promote student engagement, enhance comprehension skills, and improve reading and writing skills. That's why I've been posting weekly read alouds on the Library Story Time page of this website. But if you're looking for even more stories to enjoy, other CPS librarians are here to help! The Department of Libraries has launched daily live read alouds for any CPS student to join.
Elementary read alouds are at 10 a.m. Monday-Friday, and middle/high school sessions are weekdays at 2 p.m. Just log into your CPS account to view the full schedule and find links to livestreams and recorded read alouds. The current schedule runs through May 1, but may be extended. There are many different ways to access eBooks and eAudiobooks from home. Read below for descriptions and "how to" videos for some of the best resources available now ...
The Chicago Public Library makes many resources available for free without ever stepping foot in the library. Read below to learn about them!
Ms. Mernick usually sees students in grades PK-2 for story time in the library, and she misses seeing their smiling faces! But just because we're apart doesn't mean we can't still have story time. During the school closure, she has brought story time online. Each week, she sends PreK through 2nd grade teachers a new video to share with their classes. Watch for additional learning resources related to the books too!
