Chicago Public Library branches may be closed, but their librarians are now offering daily read alouds of children's books. Each story will be streamed live on the ChiPubLib Facebook page at 10 a.m. on weekdays. (Yes, that's the same time as the CPS Live Librarian read alouds - but don't worry, recordings of both can be accessed at a later time.)

Feel like your life could use a little extra magic these days? Hoping a letter from Hogwarts will show up inviting you on a magical adventure? Then think about joining Ms. Mernick's new Harry Potter Book Club!
Read alouds are a vital component of literacy. They promote student engagement, enhance comprehension skills, and improve reading and writing skills. That's why I've been posting weekly read alouds on the Library Story Time page of this website. But if you're looking for even more stories to enjoy, other CPS librarians are here to help! The Department of Libraries has launched daily live read alouds for any CPS student to join.
Elementary read alouds are at 10 a.m. Monday-Friday, and middle/high school sessions are weekdays at 2 p.m. Just log into your CPS account to view the full schedule and find links to livestreams and recorded read alouds. The current schedule runs through May 1, but may be extended. Capstone has opened up access to PebbleGo Next, a database for students in grades 3-5+ that is the next step for researchers ready to graduate to more robust, curriculum-aligned content at an appropriate reading level. It includes articles on topics within the following categories: Science, Social Studies, Biographies, States, and American Indian History. To access it, click the white Login button, select the "Login with PebbleGo Next" option, and enter our super secret username and password.
For beginning researchers, we still have access to PebbleGo, which covers curriculum content for grades K-2 at a lower reading level. There are many different ways to access eBooks and eAudiobooks from home. Read below for descriptions and "how to" videos for some of the best resources available now ...
